Local elections 2021
Local Government Council Elections 2021
Time of voting
The election week starts on Monday, 11 October. It consists of six advance voting days and the election day on Sunday, 17 October. Electronic voting is available during the advance voting days.
A voter is no longer tied to the polling place closest to their home in their electoral district. On election day, they can vote at any polling place in their electoral district. For example, a voter from Tartu may vote at any polling place in Tartu because there is only one electoral district in the city.
Electronic list of voters
The electoral process is becoming more paper-free. In 2021, the electronic list of voters is introduced. A voter’s right to vote will be checked against the electronic list of voters in the polling place of the electoral district. The voter receives their ballot paper against their signature on the signature page.
The elections can be organised in a way that is safe for everyone if we all respect the government guidelines. The polling places fall under the same rules as other public spaces.
