26.1% of eligible voters participated in the elections of the European Parliament by voting online or in advance
08.06.2024
I-voting and advance voting in polling places ended tonight at 8 p.m. Over six days, 255,989 eligible voters have cast their vote in the European Parliament elections; this constitutes 26.1% of the total number of eligible voters.
By 8 p.m. today, 153,848 votes have been cast electronically and 102,141 votes in polling places. The most active voters live in Tartu: 36.9% of them have already voted. 35% of eligible voters in Tallinn and 31,1% of eligible voters in Hiiu County have cast their vote.
The final i-vote count will be determined tomorrow evening because a double voting check will be conducted after the polling places close. A voter’s last chance to change their i-vote is by voting with a ballot paper in a polling place on Sunday. If a voter has used both means to vote, only the vote cast by ballot paper in a polling place will be counted. This year, counting of i-votes can be followed live on the web page of the elections at www.valimised.ee. The transmission starts at 7 p.m. in the evening of 9 June with preparatory activities.
Tomorrow is the election day, where voting is only possible with ballot papers. 377 polling places are open across Estonia from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. At the European Parliament elections, a voter can vote at any polling place across Estonia. More information on polling places is available at www.valimised.ee.
If the voter finds it difficult to make their way to the polling place because of their health or any other reason, they may apply to vote at home. A relevant application must be addressed to the local government. An oral request can be made on the phone line announced by the local government from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.
The results of the European Parliament elections may not be disclosed before the voting has ended in all the European Union Member States. The State Electoral Office starts publishing the preliminary voting results at midnight on the webpage www.valimised.ee; this is when Italy closes its polling places as the last country to do so.
78 candidates are running for a seat in the European Parliament from Estonia. Estonia has 7 mandates in the European Parliament.
