On the 70th day before election day at the latest

The Ministry of the Interior organises the preparation of notifications and sending them to the citizens of the European Union who have the right to participate in the voting.

On the 60th day before election day

The nomination of candidates begins. Before the nomination of candidates, political parties and independent candidates deposit a security to the bank account of the Ministry of Finance.

On the 60th day before election day at the latest

The Ministry of the Interior sends electronic information sheets to voters who reside permanently abroad or are temporarily staying abroad according to the data in the population register, to their e-mail address registered in the Estonian open data portal or entered in the population register.

On the 50th day before election day at the latest

Rural municipality and city governments determine voting districts by their regulations.

On the 50th day before election day

Nomination of candidates ends (at 6 p.m.).

On the 43rd day before election day at the latest

Correction of errors in candidates’ documents ends (at 6 p.m.).

On the 40th day before election day at the latest

The National Electoral Committee registers the candidates nominated in accordance with the requirements.

On the 40th day before election day at the latest

Political parties participating in the elections each present one member candidate for each voting district committee to rural municipality and city secretaries.

Within 3 days after the registration of candidates

Candidates may submit applications to decline to stand as a candidate.

On the 30th day before election day at the latest

Foreign missions should have received applications to vote by post. Foreign missions send election documents to voters at the earliest opportunity.

On the 30th day before election day at the latest

Citizens of the European Union who wish to participate in the voting submit an application to be entered in the list of voters to the controller of the population register.

On the 25th day before election day

The Ministry of the Interior prepares the lists of voters. Any changes made to the data on residential address and address of the place of stay after the 30th day before election day are not taken into account.

On the 20th day before election day at the latest

Rural municipality and city councils appoint, by their resolutions, voting district committees comprising at least five members, and chairs of voting district committees.

From the 15th day to the 10th day before election day

Voting at foreign missions takes place on at least two days.

On the 10th day before election day at the latest

The Ministry of the Interior sends election information sheets to voters.

From the 6th day to the 1st day before election day

Electronic voting is held. Voting opens at 9 a.m. on 3 June 2024 and lasts 24 hours a day until 8 p.m. on 8 June 2024.

From the 6th day to the 3rd day before election day

Advance voting is held in at least one designated voting district in each rural municipality and city from 12 noon to 8 p.m.

From the 6th day to the 3rd day before election day

Voting in custodial institutions, hospitals and 24-hour social welfare institution is organised from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m.

From the 2nd day to the 1st day before election day

Advance voting is held in all voting districts from 12 noon to 8 p.m. Voting at home (at the location of voter) is also held from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Election Day

Voting is held from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Voting at home (at the location of voter) is also held.

The counting of votes begins after the close of voting in Estonia. After 8 p.m., the vote counting committee of the city of Tallinn begins counting the votes cast by voters who voted abroad. After 8 p.m., the State Electoral Office ascertains the results of electronic voting. Voting results may not be disclosed before the close of voting in all Member States of the European Union.

On the 20th day after election day at the latest

The National Electoral Committee registers the elected Members of the European Parliament and their alternate members.

Within one month as of election day

Political parties and independent candidates submit election campaign reports to the Political Parties Financing Surveillance Committee within one month as of election day.
