Today is the European Parliament election day
09.06.2024
Today, the members of the European Parliament from Estonia are elected. All 377 polling places are open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. At the European Parliament elections, a voter can vote at any polling place across Estonia.
A voter must bring a valid identity document. I-voting is not possible today. However, a voter can still change their i-vote by voting with a ballot paper at a polling place on the election day. More information on polling places is available at www.valimised.ee.
If the voter finds it difficult to make their way to the polling place because of their health or any other reason, they may apply to vote at home. The application must be addressed to the local government. This can still be done today by calling the phone line announced by the local government from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.
255,989 eligible voters participated in online or advance voting in the elections of the European Parliament; 153,848 voted electronically and 102,141 in polling places. The final i-vote count will be determined tonight because a double voting check will be conducted after the polling places close. If a voter has used both means to vote, only the vote cast on a ballot paper in a polling place will be counted.
The results of the European Parliament elections may not be disclosed before the voting has ended in all the European Union Member States. The State Electoral Office starts publishing the preliminary voting results at midnight on the webpage www.valimised.ee; this is when Italy closes its polling places as the last country to do so. This year, counting of i-votes can be followed live on the web page of the elections at www.valimised.ee. The transmission starts at 7 p.m. with preparatory activities.
78 candidates are running for a seat in the European Parliament from Estonia. Estonia has 7 mandates in the European Parliament. The European Union citizens will elect 720 members to the European Parliament.
