Electronic voting and advance voting of the Riigikogu elections starts today
21.02.2019
The Riigikogu elections start today: i-voting starts at 9 a.m. and voting in county centres at 12 noon.
Voting is possible in county centres until 8 p.m. on 24 February, regardless of the registered place of residence of the voter. “At least one polling place has been opened in every county centre; there are 8 in Tallinn and 4 in Tartu,” said the Head of the State Electoral Office Priit Vinkel. The exact locations of the polling places can be found on the web page of the State Electoral Office: https://www.valimised.ee/et/riigikogu-valimised-2019/maakonnakeskuste-valimisjaoskonnad
I-voting is possible on the address www.valimised.ee, around the clock until 6 p.m. on 27 February. “This time, there are no significant changes in i-voting. A smaller addition is the possibility to search the candidate by name; also, the opening view displays the list of parties that you can click to see the candidates,” Vinkel said. A vote cast over the internet can be changed by another electronic vote, or by voting in a polling place on the advance voting days. A voter cannot change their vote on the election day, 3 March.
Advance voting takes place on 25–27 February in all polling places. “451 polling places have been opened for the Riigikogu elections. During this time, voting is possible in the polling place of one’s place of residence, as well as in a polling place that organises voting outside the place of residence,” Vinkel explained. Every local government unit has at least one polling place that organises voting outside the place of residence. Detailed information can be found in the map application https://valimised.rahvastikuregister.ee/
On the election day, 3 March, a voter can vote only in the polling place of their residence.
A voter must bring along a photo identification, such as an ID-card, passport, or driver’s licence. They do not have to bring their voter’s card.
