National Electoral Committee registered candidates for the European Parliament elections

16.04.2019

Today, the National Electoral Committee registered the candidates for the elections of the European Parliament. Lots were drawn to determine the registration numbers of candidates on the party lists and the registration numbers of independent candidates. Nine political parties have put up their candidate lists for the European Parliament elections and there are five independent candidates. The total number of candidates is 66.

The National Electoral Committee refused to register two independent candidates. “Meelis Kaldalu was not registered because he failed to pay the security by the due date,” Chairman of the National Electoral Committee Meelis Eerik said. “And Romeo Kalda, who is serving sentence in a penal institution and therefore cannot participate in elections pursuant to the law, also submitted his documents through his authorised representative.”

Specific registration numbers can be found here: https://ep2019.valimised.ee/en/

During the next three days, the candidates have the right to decline to stand as a candidate.

The European Parliament elections in Estonia will be held on 26 May. Voting at foreign missions is possible from 11 to 16 May, i-voting and advance voting will start on 16 May in Estonia.
